Cry and Howl

A friend I knew in high school posted a heart-warming story on Facebook about what the folks from Delta Flight 15 went through on 9/11/2001. Take a few minutes to read this and realize there are still good folks out there despite the overwhelming forces of evil which are taking over nearly every society on earth.

Here we go …

Take a Gander at This Amazing, Yet Little Known, 9-11 Story

nyt911a

From a flight attendant on Delta Flight 15, written following 9-11:

On the morning of Tuesday, September 11, we were about 5 hours out of Frankfurt, flying over the North Atlantic.

All of a sudden the curtains parted and I was told to go to the cockpit, immediately, to see the captain.

As soon as I got there I noticed that the crew had that “All Business” look on their faces. The captain handed me a printed message. It…

September 19-Somethin’ Challenge Day 5

September 19-Somethin’ Challenge | McClendon Villa19-Somethin_Sidebar_Button

This challenge is prompted by the song 19-Somethin’ by Mark Wills. You can hear the song here: https://youtu.be/UhSCeItgUEc
The following questions are taken from the various lines in the song.  There are also a few random questions thrown into the mix to make it a post a day for the month – 30 posts.

5. Today is Labor Day in the United States. How old were you when you got your first job? What was that job? Did you enjoy it?

I was 16 when I got my first job.  Yes, I loved it.  I still even have dreams about it sometimes.  It was at Baskin-Robbins.

4. Did you have a sports hero? Who was he or she and what was their sport?

I don’t know if they were heroes, but I liked the 1972 Oakland A’s.  I thought Vida Blue and Rollie Fingers were super cool names.  But then, football, and Kenny Stabler and the inimitable Ray Guy from the Oakland Raiders became the sports legends I most loved.  Wait, wait, Nadia.  Every girl adored Nadia.  She made us all believe we could be gymnasts.

3. Did you ever take something apart just to see how it worked or what was inside it? What was it? What did you find in there?

I did!  I took apart a lot of things!  The one I most remember was one of those tape gun things.  I don’t even remember what they were called to look it up, but you put the little roll of plastic tape in it, and turned the dial until it got to the letter you wanted, then you pressed it really hard and turned the dial to get to the next letter.  We just always called them tape guns.  They wanted to be label makers when they grew up, lol.  But, I did put it back together and it worked just like it did before, yay!

2. What is the first video game that you remember playing? Were you good at it? What game system did you play it on or was it in an arcade?

That would have to be Pong, of course!  I told you I’ve been 34 for a long time, lol.

September 19-Somethin’ Challenge Day 1

I saw this fun challenge over that Zombie Flamingoes is participating in, and I decided I wanted to join in, too! I’m a bit late so I’m going to post the first few days all at once until I’m caught up. Thanks for bearing with me!

1. What movie could you, or did you, see over and over and over again when you were a teenager?

Okay, promise you won’t laugh at me!  I had a thing for Ode to Billy Joe.  I thought Robby Benson was sooo cuuuute.  I don’t know how many times I saw that movie.  I had the book, too, and I must have read it dozens of times.  I even had parts of it memorized.  *blush*  So, I was 12, but that counts as a teen, right?  Close enough!

Now you know.

Monday In Bloom

Not a terribly hot day, but once I came back inside, I felt overly warm.  Weird.  I was glad to finally be able to get out there and get some deadheading done though!  It’s been kind of hot this week and I haven’t had much opportunity.  We have some really hot days coming up again this week, too.  The kids are on vacation though, so yay!

Things sure feel quiet in this spot.  Now that the lilies are pretty much done and the daisies are long over, it’s just pretty much green.  I cut back the pansies quite a bit so hopefully that will bring on some massive end-of-season blooms.  *fingerscrossed*

Things are pretty colorful and lush over here, though!

After I took this picture of my urn pot …

I decided it looked funny.  Can you even tell there are more plants in the back of it?  So I rotated it.  Now the larger plants are in the back and those Dusty Miller and Sweet Alyssum can get a bit more sun.

Yes, I got more blue pots.  Because … blue pots!

I consolidated all the burgundy pansies into one pot, because …

New addition!  Burgundy mums!  Should be pretty for Autumn.
09-04-2016 GW18 (19)

Along with the burgundy mums, I picked up these creamy vanilla ones.  The last surviving pansy that was in this pot finally gave it up, so I had a naked pot.  With Autumn around the corner, mums seemed like an obvious choice.

And look what was hiding in my lilies!  Even more buds!

Just look at that color!  Isn’t it dreamy?  *happysigh*  I love yellow.

The vernoica seems nice and bushy.

So does the lavender and sage.  Please please please survive Winter!

I put something in our storage over the weekend, and was hit with a case of garden envy on the walk over.  I didn’t have my camera on me at the time, so I snuck this one in with my zoom when I was taking my garden pictures.  They’ve tricked out their whole little plot, along the entire walkway and around their whole patio area.  They even put in some stepping stones!  And they have really nice solar lights, too!  And they put little trees up along their side patch on either side of their window.  *envioussigh*  I could tell they only recently did this as there were telltale mulch droppings on the sidewalk.  I feel so inadequate now!  I see I have my Spring work cut out for me!
09-04-2016 GW18 (45)

And that’s how my garden’s growing!  How’s yours doing?  Have you started any kind of Autumn stuff?
