Sending Warm Thoughts

It’s been a long time since it’s been this cold.  How cold is it?  So cold that there is ice on the light switch in our bathroom.  20140107_072710I can feel cold air blowing in when I put my hand over it, so I know we’ll have to get some of that insulating stuff to put in there.  And a new cover wouldn’t hurt.  I know the maintenance crew would take care of this, but it seems like such a trivial thing to call them about.  They have bigger problems to worry about right now.  Like plowing, and salting.

It feels like it’s about 60 degrees below freezing.  Sounds a lot worse than 30 degrees below zero, doesn’t it?  But a –30 wind chill IS 60 degrees below freezing!  It’s all about perspective, people!  My first super cold snap like this one happened a couple years after I moved here.  Back then the wind chills got to –80, a good 50 degrees colder feeling than it is now.

As a little girl growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, I didn’t know people could live in freezing weather.  The first time I saw the thermometer hit 28 degrees out there I thought it was akin to Armageddon and we were all going to DIE!  Who can survive if it’s below 32?  Won’t we all freeze to death?  You know … I still kind of feel that way, lol.  I still can’t wrap my brain around that –80 wind chill, either.

And I still can’t adapt.

Seemed like a good day to post this article I found in my drafts folder.  Warm, sunny beaches … ahhhh!  Now there’s an idea I can embrace!  A picture-cation.  Hope you enjoy!

Stay warm.
