Monday In Bloom

06-18-2017 GW07 (55)A warm day to work outside, but not terribly so.  A tiny bit humid.  Thankfully, it was nothing unbearable.  I realized that despite all the rain we’ve had this week. the pots in the side patch got only a tiny bit of that rain and were dry as a bone and drooping in sadness and thirst.  I watered heavily and hope they perk back up.

I also sprayed the garden like a mad woman.  Well, I am a mad woman, I suppose.  Either Morticia Addams has taken a liking to pansies, or something has been making a meal out of them.  Many of the blooms are gone, just snipped off right at the tops of the stems.  So I whipped up a batch of some stuff I used last year that seemed to work pretty well, and now have my fingers crossed.

Overall, things are looking pretty good!  The sage blooms have died off and I’ll probably dead-head those this week.  There are tiny new blooms raring to go so I want to make room for them, and give them plenty of energy to bloom forth and conquer.

Booyah, I remembered to get a shot of the corner patch this time.

The biggest garden news though – Daisies!!  Woohoo!!  Lots and lots of daisies!  Look at all those happy blooms and buds!  Isn’t it amazing?  *dreamysigh*
06-18-2017 GW07 (40)

Hello, new daisy!  Welcome!
06-18-2017 GW07 (41)

I’m pretty certain the lilies and Artemisia have made some kind of a deal to take over the garden front patch.  Rumor has it the daisies are thinking of teaming up with the sage.
06-18-2017 GW07 (6)

Look!  Baby pine cones!  Twins!
06-18-2017 GW07 (8)

As I was taking pictures, I realized that both of the colors of verbena in this pot (can you see the one peeking out in back?) perfectly match the leaves of the coleus.  This is what I call “gardendipity.”  😀
06-18-2017 GW07 (20)

Wow, check out the … the … oh crap I forgot what it’s called!  The pretty purple vine thing!  Purple heart plant?  That rings a bell.  It’s really grown a lot this week!
06-18-2017 GW07 (28)

A rainbow of snapdragons!  I lost one though.  😦  It didn’t make it so I finally took it out of the pot.  I hate empty spaces in pots like that.
06-18-2017 GW07 (32)

I love daisies.  I love yellow.  Yellow daisies make me happy.  🙂
06-18-2017 GW07 (33)

The other big garden news – the lilies are going to try to steal the show from the daisies!  There are so many budlets like this one, it’s going to be a gorgeous yellow show!
06-18-2017 GW07 (38)

And the speedwell is blooming!  Tiny lavender pink rockets!
06-18-2017 GW07 (46)

And that’s how my garden’s growing this week!  How’s yours coming along?

Monday In Bloom

06-11-2017 GW06 (47)Much like last week, hot!  Plus, it’s been really windy the last few days, and my plants look like it.  They all seem to be leaning to the northwest.

What you won’t be able to detect from the pictures is that we’ve had a bit of maintenance work done around here.  Since we’re under new ownership as of a few months ago, they’ve taken to making some changes around the place.  This past week they made a bunch of concrete repairs to the sidewalks, and they painted.  I was kind of excited about that part, and looking forward to a bit of a color update.  But no.  Oh they painted.  I had to move everything off my patio and leave it on the grass for nearly a week, but they simply painted everything the same color!  A tiny bummer.  At least everything looks well-kept now, so that’s good.  The painted areas were flaking and peeling really bad so it is nice to get that taken care of.

As you can see, the sage is done with those amazing purple, spiky blooms now.  It was really a show stopper!  Even my husband liked seeing it.  🙂
06-11-2017 GW06 (3)

I can’t believe I forgot to get a picture of the corner patch!

The side patch is starting to take off now, though.  I have three snapdragons that are dying, but everything else here is responding really well.  It’s been about a month so I think it’s safe to say that things have settled in.  06-11-2017 GW06 (5)

I feel like I got lucky in deciding to arrange these stands like this.  Those verbena are really shining here!  And they look so nice combined with the sweet allysum!

Pansies!  Yay!  One of my favorite flowers!  One of my other pansy pots is still really struggling though, but at least these, and one other, are blooming really nice now.
06-11-2017 GW06 (10)06-11-2017 GW06 (15)

Be still my heart!  These 2 pots, they just rock my garden world, lol.  😀
06-11-2017 GW06 (22)06-11-2017 GW06 (28)

Snapdragons!  Lots of colorful snapdragons!  They’re kind of like little potted rainbows.  😀
06-11-2017 GW06 (7)06-11-2017 GW06 (24)06-11-2017 GW06 (26)

Even the hanging baskets seem to be thriving!
06-11-2017 GW06 (29)06-11-2017 GW06 (30)

Daisies!  Dozens and dozens of daisy buds!  They are set to start blooming any day now!  Oooh, I can’t wait!
06-11-2017 GW06 (35)

The speedwell is getting its blooms going now, too!  You can seem them just starting to peek out.
06-11-2017 GW06 (40)

And the garden baby – look, little tiny buds!  How cute.  🙂

Monday In Bloom

It was a beautiful day Sunday, when I went out to putz a little in my garden patches.  Mid 70sF, sunny, low humidity.  Days like that are rare around here.

Things seem to be going really well so far, with the exception of one pot of pansies.  Oddly, I’m pretty sure it’s the same pot I had trouble with last year, so I’m wondering if there’s something wrong with the soil in the pot.  It’s the pot the resident chipmunk seems to prefer, and so far he’s run off with one of the sticky traps I put there for him.  Next time, I’m going hardcore.  I have traditional mousetraps.  I didn’t want to have to resort to that, but … there is it.

05-28-2017 GW04 (4)

The rest of the pansies seem to be doing okay.  I’ve gotten some nice color from them so far.
05-28-2017 GW04 (12)05-28-2017 GW04 (15)05-28-2017 GW04 (21)

I’m hoping the coleus is going to be gangbusters this year, like last.  They were so amazing!
05-28-2017 GW04 (17)

I’m sure I overdid it in my urn pot.  I couldn’t seem to help myself.  I kept saying, “Just one more plant in here, it’s a deep pot, it’ll look nice!”  I’ll just have to see how it goes and keep my fingers crossed that nothing has to be taken out due to over-crowding.
05-28-2017 GW04 (20)

I love the happy yellow!  The osteospermum are so cheery looking.
05-28-2017 GW04 (27)

There will be lilies!  The bushes are so huge and I’m hoping for an abundance of flowers.   Last year they lasted for weeks.  I also managed to get rid of the gigantic spiky weed that was growing under this one.  Whew!
05-28-2017 GW04 (35)

One of the two new additions this year – this is a pincushion.  It seems to be hanging in there pretty well and even has some new blooms on it.
05-28-2017 GW04 (39)

My other new baby – a white lavender.  I needed just one more plant to fill in a blank space so I ordered this one from Amazon.  I just got it planted Sunday.
05-28-2017 GW04 (43)

The sage has been my current show-stopper I think. Those blossoms have really come out to play this week!
05-28-2017 GW04 (44)

Blue skies, a slight breeze, all in all, a lovely day!

Monday In Bloom

Sunday afternoon – Low 50sF and overcast for picture time.  Looks like it might rain.  It was super foggy on Saturday night and even rained a little, so the garden is staying nice and hydrated.

There should be lots of lilies next month, if these plants are any indication!  And the daisy plant is huge.  It’s really spread out a lot since I planted it a couple years ago.
05-21-2017 GW03 (3)

The new corner patch is looking pretty good.  Not a whole lot of color yet but I think the snapdragons will start blooming pretty soon.
05-21-2017 GW03 (4)

The side patch is also looking pretty good.  I went and dusted the bottom edges of all my pots with some diatomaceous earth to keep the bugs at bay.  Last year I had some real problems with some pesty things, I’m not exactly sure what kind.  Could be earwigs, roly-poly bugs, daddy-long-legs, or slugs.  Or a combination of any of those.  A couple of plants have been snacked on, so now I’m going to dust around the plants inside the pots.  Diatomaceous earth will harm bees if you’re not careful, so I’m being careful.
05-21-2017 GW03 (5)

Last year I had Coleus in the blue pots and the Dusty Miller in the green pots.  I think this arrangement suits them much better.
05-21-2017 GW03 (10)

Yeah, the silvery Dusty Miller against that teal blue … *swoon*.  🙂
05-21-2017 GW03 (22)05-21-2017 GW03 (28)

The snaps are snapping!  Shouldn’t been long now before they’re really going gangbusters.
05-21-2017 GW03 (24)

The Columbine has been blooming nicely for a couple of weeks now, looking so pretty.
05-21-2017 GW03 (36)

The Artemisia is also doing really well, both of them!  Last year one seemed kind of week but now they both seem to be happy.
05-21-2017 GW03 (37)05-21-2017 GW03 (41)

Same with the Lavender.  I wasn’t sure if it was going to make it after the Winter, but it seems to be coming back okay.
05-21-2017 GW03 (42)

The Sage is a very happy plant, yay!
05-21-2017 GW03 (43)

Likewise with the hanging pots.  Bonus, the copper wire seems to be working out pretty well.  *whew*

Monday In Bloom

It was a gorgeous day here Sunday, Mother’s Day.  Low to mid 60sF, clear blue skies, low humidity – just lovely!  My husband took me to the garden center, where I was able to replace the plants that I lost this past week due to all the wonky weather.  Man that place was crowded!  So I spent a little bit of time getting those potted, and I finally got my new perennial in the ground.  In general, things are looking fairly decent.  A few plants are struggling because of the recent cold snaps, but I do think they’ll recover with enough tender loving care.

05-14-2017 GW02 (1)

Kind of hard to see in the picture, but I found some heavy copper wire for my hanging pots.  I got so tired of the twine ropes breaking on me.  I’m hoping the wire is more sturdy.
05-14-2017 GW02 (2)

The side patch.
05-14-2017 GW02 (4)

The new section!  Not sure what to call it yet – the patio patch?  This is the “extension” I was working on a couple weeks ago.  Before, the grass went to the edge of the patio, but now I’ve wrapped the patio with mulch and garden fencing.  This enables me to get my long pots off the patio, and also gets the square pots out of the front patch.  I love the symmetry of how it looks.  Bonus, I’m hoping the extra fencing will keep critters and neighbor’s dogs off our patio.
05-14-2017 GW02 (6)

I think this must be my favorite pot, and I’m sure I’ve overloaded it again this year.  I love the graceful look of it.
05-14-2017 GW02 (21)

The columbine have been blooming and look pretty

The newest addition to the perennials – a pincushion plant.
