Updating …

So, my new(ish) computer finally arrived.  I have to say, so far so good.  It seems stable, and the wireless connection has been stable, too.  I’m just trying to get everything moved over.  You know how that goes.  *sigh*  *more sighing*

But, you know, those Daily Prompt things I was doing … I guess I’m a bit OCD about them.  So, I’ve ported over (thanks thumb drive!) the ones I was working on when my computer started dying a couple weeks ago.  I kept their original dates for consistency’s sake.

Now back to my regularly scheduled game of trying to play catch up!

An Open Letter

This was less than an hour ago,.

This was this past Sunday night.

This was the Sunday night the week before.

Dear Arctic Circle!

I appreciate the visit!  Really, I do!  It’s nice to see you, every once in a while.  From afar.  In a snow globe.  But, you can go home now.

Love, Vanessa

With homeschool starting up again next week after our lovely 4-weeks off, I’ve been thinking a lot about … soap.

See, here’s the thing.  I have a soap for my hair, one for my face, one for my body, and one for shaving.  This one has oils good for hair, that one has clay for slip so shaving is smoother, you get the idea.  But at the end of the day, there are about a billion and half bars of soap in my bath.  I want to make a be-all end-all soap that I can use for all those things, so I don’t need separate soaps for everything.

Plus, I’ve been reading about lavender infused vinegar for hair conditioner.  I so want to do that!

My stuff came in, yay!  So I sprayed my pansies.  Fingers crossed that it works!

Can you believe it’s almost July and that 2016 is half done?  I’m feel like I’m still on March!

Email to Nowhere

Well, I did it.  I switched the email account attached to my WordPress.  I just can’t deal with the headache that losing Windows Live Mail is causing me anymore.  I had no idea that finding a replacement desktop email program would be such a flipping nightmare!  I mean, I still have to have something for my mail, but anything I’m looking at just isn’t going to be easy to work with.  Thanks, Microsoft!  That’s exactly how I didn’t want to spend my Summer vacation!

I liked having Windows Live Mail handle everything.  It meant I didn’t have to be online to go through and respond to comments.  Because that’s a nice touch, blogging through email.  I really like that WP offers that perk.  Now I’ll be doing that through Gmail.  And hey, if I’m on my phone, maybe I can use Google’s voice-to-text feature to respond, lol.  That might be a kick.  Because, you know doggone good and well I can’t type to save my life on a hand-held device of any kind.

I feel like for the last few years, every time I turn around another tech thing is breaking or shutting down.  Oh well.  At least now, I can focus a bit more on catching up with everyone in the blogosphere.  I’ve been so consumed with trying to fix this that I’ve become lax here.  Still have to find a replacement email solution before the end of the month, but I won’t feel the pressure, hopefully.

And I just remembered that I forgot (heh, how’s that for a line?!) to make Challah for tomorrow, so guess what I’m doing!  I can comment while the dough rises.  😀

So … about that foot

So what happened was … I was attacked.  By a can of vegetables.  Can you believe it?  There I was, minding my own business, when the can ruthlessly hurled itself out of my hand and viciously attacked my foot [with its edge!] for no reason.  There was much yelling and cursing but ultimately, I think I won because I put a hole in that son of a … gun, and bled him dry.

Which sounds a lot more entertaining, and far less humiliating, than I dropped a can of green beans on my foot like a dumbass.  🙄

Thanks you guys, for being concerned.  🙂  *hugs*

Or wait, maybe I could say that I injured it because someone on the Internet was wrong and I had to go kick their a$$.  No?

Back in the Swing of Things

I tell ya, it’s not easy getting back into the swing of things after a long and awesome vacation!  My husband had a couple weeks and a couple days off, the kids were off school, and we had one of the best Christmases ever.  It’s hard to go back to the real world after that.  But go back we did.  The kids got a new school year off to a start, my husband went back to his day job and thankfully there weren’t any fires for him to put out, and I got started on packing Christmas things away, and some general housework I’d let pile up.  If you ask if we went anywhere, my husband might tell you, “Well, I made multiple trips to the coffee pot.” and I might say, “I went to bed!”  Sleep was sweet for all of us, and how big of a blessing is that?

I imagine a big part of the world went back to the daily grind today – how about you?  Did you have a good holiday?  Were you ready to go back to work?

You know, after more than 9 years into this blogging thing, I still don’t know what I want my blog to be when it grows up.  So many bloggers I see seem to have a theme thing going on, like a focus on a single topic.  I’ve tried that.  Which is why I have like at least a half dozen blogs dedicated to one subject or other that interests me.  But because I have more interests than time, I don’t blog on those other sites as much as I want.

Mostly, I think I wanted a way to connect with other people, and a place to express myself.  I’m pretty introverted and writing is much easier for me than vocalizing.  And every year around this time I wonder if I should focus on something on my blog, or have a dedicated thing – like every Monday is one subject – know what I mean?  Do you have a system for blogging?  Do you map out your posts?  Does it help?

I’ve also been thinking of resolutions for the new year.  As a general rule, I don’t do resolutions.  A couple times I have, but over all, I tend to believe that if something’s worth changing, there’s no time like the present to get started.  Or, at least next Monday.  Winking smile  Last year, I had a couple of things I wanted to learn in 2015 – making soap, and crocheting.  I did the soap thing, but I never found time for the crochet thing and honestly, I couldn’t really justify it.  No one in my family would wear a sweater and they tend to dislike yarn-y things in general.  So I tabled the crochet thing.  At least for now.

For 2016 I have a few things I want to tackle.  I have some online notebooks that need serious pruning, as well as some email accounts.  I don’t really have anything new that I want to learn, per say, but I do want to learn more about soaping and essential oils.  I also want to focus more on my tech classes that I signed up for last year.  I’m using Trello to help keep me in line.  Oh, and walking.  I have a bad knee that I baby a lot because it starts to hurt when I stand too long, like when I’m making dinner or washing dishes.  But, babying it doesn’t seem to really help it at all, so I thought maybe walking would help more.  So I got one of those FitBit things to help me keep track and motivated.

How about you?  Do you do resolutions?  Do you have personal plans or blogging plans for the new year?  For that matter, do you have New Year’s Eve plans at all?  We like to stay in and hide behind the couch until the revelry is done.  Winking smile

“She even lost the one thing we all take for granted – her reflection. But she wakes every morning with a smile on her face. She is the true definition of hope, faith and love.”

8-Year-Old Burn Victim Who Lost Family in Fire Wishes for Christmas Cards :

She touched my heart.  Grown-ups have crumpled under less difficulty than this little girl.  So, I sent her a card.  Then I thought maybe you might like to send her one, too.  Smile
