Holiday Light Displays

I found this post in my drafts folder, from last year.  I checked the link and it still works, yay!  I love the Christmas lights and the different ways people decorate their homes.  My husband and I used to drive around during the holiday season just to see the lit-up houses, before our son was born.

Do you put Christmas lights up where you live?  Do you like to drive around just to see the pretty lights?

There’s nothing that says holiday season like a killer display of lights. Sure it’s fun to check out the towering tree as it twinkles in New York City’s Rockefeller Center or the Christmas extravaganza at Disney World. But those aren’t the only spots to see spectacular festive lights. Here are some more off-the-beaten-path, quirky spots to check out holiday lights around the U.S.

What Are The Keys To Your Heart?

While some (not all) of this is true, I can tell you the keys to my heart!  Loyalty, dependability, and doing the right thing.  Captain America has keys to my heart, lol.  Now if only he had brown eyes … Winking smile

Your Heart Takes Love Lightly
You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.
In love, you feel the most alive when things are straight-forward, and you’re told that you’re loved.
You’d like to your lover to think you are stylish and alluring.
You would be forced to break up with someone who was ruthless, cold-blooded, and sarcastic.
Your ideal relationship is open. Both of you can talk about everything… no secrets.
Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.
You think of marriage as something precious. You’ll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred.
In this moment, you think of love as something you can get or discard anytime. You’re feeling self centered.

Thanksgiving Divorce

A man in Phoenix calls his son in New York the day before Thanksgiving and says,”I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.

“Pop, what are you talking about?” the son screams. We can’t stand the sight of each other any longer,” the father says. “We’re sick of each other, and I’m sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her.”

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. “Like heck they’re getting divorced,” she shouts, “I’ll take care of this,”

She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at her father, “You are NOT getting divorced. Don’t do a single thing until I get there. I’m calling my brother back, and we’ll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don’t do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?” and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. “Okay,” he says, “they’re coming for Thanksgiving and paying their own way.”

This one always makes me chuckle.  Smile

Have an awesome Thanksgiving-leftover-y weekend!

Thanksgiving (49)My husband and I, we love Thanksgiving.  We love that it’s a Christian holiday – it was thankfulness to God, specifically the Christian God, that inspired the Pilgrims.  We love that it was an American holiday.  It seems to be uniquely ours, as Christians and Americans.

However, we don’t celebrate it as others do.

Like the Pilgrims, we feel like we are in a strange land, with no family around us, and like the Pilgrims this is by choice (but for vastly different reasons).  It’s not about the food for us, and we don’t believe it was for them either.  We believe that it was about the gratitude, and that the Pilgrims would have celebrated with caviar, or pineapple, or avocados, if that’s what had been available to them.  So, we don’t adhere to a traditional menu on Thanksgiving, but we choose one that we feel will best reflect our gratitude.  It’s worked out pretty well for us.  Besides, who wants to break their diet for turkey?  Winking smile

We’re preparing for our day of gratitude.  Getting ready all those fun things to eat.  Focusing our thoughts, and our hearts, on Christ, the Giver of all things.  And my wish for you is that you too will feel that sense of thankfulness, that deep sense of gratitude that fills a heart no matter what it’s been through, the hardships or heartbreak it’s faced.  There is a joy that quiets the sorrows.  I wish for you to know it, to experience it to its fullest, that your hearts be overflowing with an abundance of joy no matter what’s on your plate.

And please know that I am thankful for the opportunity to touch your lives, to see things that you see, to read about the things you experience and think about.  I am glad I know you.  Smile

Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Vacation Time

Let the vacation begin!  Woo!

At the end of school today, our vacation time officially began.  My husband has been off of work since he got home Friday evening, but the kids still had school yesterday and today.  But now they are done and we have the rest of the week off.  After that is one more week of school to finish our school year and then a whole month off!  But that’s for another post.

For the rest of this week it’ll be movies – right now my husband is in an eschatological mood so he’s searching for programs that deal with that topic, but tomorrow he’ll probably be in horror movie mood.  The man loves him some horror flicks and no vacation time passes without at least one B-level horror movie.  And then he will write and write some more.  Writers have to have books to publish, you know.

It kind of feels like an extra Friday.  So we’ll put another pot of coffee on and get down to the serious business of kicking back.  Smile

Do you have any favorite movies to watch for relaxing?  What kinds of things do you like to do to when you have some free time coming up?

Nature Monday

I can’t believe I almost forgot to post today!  I am so used to taking pictures of the garden for my posts for the last 7 months, that when I didn’t take pictures, I spaced off on the post.  *dork*

I thought instead I’d share some pictures I took the other night of the snow we got.  It was so lovely, I was happy as my husband’s vacation had just started, so I decided to take a little picture walk.  The kids wanted to go with me, for “an adventure.”

One of our neighbors has these lovely blue lights up.  It’s kind of cool how they reflect back into my place even though they’re just a few doors down.  The office windows face us both, so I can see the reflection in those windows when I look out my own at night.  It’s a triangulation thing I guess.

Can you see how much snow has accumulated on the branches?  It was such a heavy, wet snow.  I love those, as they make everything so quiet.  You can almost hear the snowflakes fall, but you have to be really, really quiet.  Winking smile

Well, guess we won’t be needing those air conditioners for a while!  My daughter said they’re wearing snow hats.

It’s so still, it’s like the world is waiting with bated breath for something magical to happen.  I love how it’s so pristine here – no footprints, animal or human.

The trees are clad in snowflakes instead of leaves.  They went from their blazing Autumn glory, to this fluffy Winter glory.

As for my garden, yeah, you can say that’s a wrap!

How was your weekend?
